What is Eco Schools?

Eco-Schools is a global programme engaging millions of children across 67 countries, making it the largest educational programme on the planet.

For over 25 years Eco-Schools has been empowering children to drive change and improve their environmental awareness through the Seven-Step framework in order to achieve the international Eco-Schools Green Flag.

Eco-Schools develops pupils’ skills, raises environmental awareness, improves the school environment and creates financial savings for schools as well as a whole host of other benefits.

At Broomhill we are very proud of our school environment. Due to current restrictions the 2020-2021 Eco committee consists of children from Year 4. Over the last few months the children have been working hard to improve our Eco Schools programme, their hard work has truly paid off as they have achieved the bronze and silver awards. The committee's end goal is to receive the Green Flag award. To achieve this the children have completed an environmental review, this review looked at the Eco Schools 10 Eco-Topics. As a result of the environmental review the committee group chose 3 Eco-topics which they are passionate about. An action plan was soon put together from the collected data, the committee informed others of what they found and thought of interesting and creative ways to monitor their work across school. The committee have also created their very own Broomhill Eco Code.

Eco action plan 2022-2023

Eco School at Broomhill 2022-2023!

We are very excited to start our 2022-2023 journey of Eco Schools Green Flag award.
As part of our action plan we have decided to join the No Mow May project. This means that during May 2023 we will choose an area of the school playground to not be mowed. We will use this area to plant wildflowers in order to increase our bio diversity.
